Grow your business globally with GLS

Shipping to the USA – a huge market with fewer formalities than you might think

Whether your offer is aimed at individual consumers or mainly at businesses, the United States can be an attractive direction for growth. The US market is large and open to brands that offer high-quality products at a competitive price – and this is where Polish companies can find real opportunities, especially as demand for European goods remains stable.

At GLS, we help companies reach customers across the United States. Thanks to the GLS Group’s experience in the US market, our extensive operational network and proven logistics solutions, we can efficiently optimise the entire delivery process – from dispatch in Poland to final delivery to the recipient in the USA.

How do we organise deliveries to the United States?

● We take care of all customs formalities. Export customs clearance is handled by GLS Poland, while import customs clearance in the United States is managed by an experienced customs broker acting as our local partner.

● For most shipments – those valued below USD 2,500 and not subject to additional duties or regulations, such as FDA supervision – we provide simplified customs clearance. It is carried out based solely on the invoice and waybill, without the need to secure the shipment with a customs bond, which means lower costs and shorter processing times.

● Parcels reach recipients in most US states within two weeks. Major markets such as New York or Los Angeles can be served even faster – in as little as five days and at lower cost. Delivery prices are organised within a four-zone structure, based on the actual cost of serving each region of the United States.

● The shipment status can be monitored at every stage of its journey – from leaving the warehouse in Poland to final delivery to a customer in Texas or Massachusetts – through the GLS system. We provide full operational transparency.

● If, for any reason, a shipment cannot be delivered to the recipient, we do not leave you to deal with the problem on your own. Together, we agree on the next step. You can choose another delivery attempt, return the goods to Poland via the Frankfurt hub, or entrust us with the disposal of the shipment.

China and East Asia – potential worth exploring

Did you know that in the first half of 2026 alone, as many as 140 million consumers in China made purchases through cross-border e-commerce platforms? In addition, there are other rapidly growing markets across Asia and the Pacific, including Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia, which may represent another attractive direction for expansion for European businesses.

At the same time, selling to Asian markets may involve additional operational challenges:

● exporting to APAC countries requires complex documentation;

● customs procedures differ from country to country, as does the logistics infrastructure;

● local customers and potential business partners are highly sensitive to delivery costs and lead times.

That is why GLS handles shipments to this region in cooperation with SF Express – the largest integrated logistics provider in China and GLS’s strategic partner in Asia. Thanks to SF Express’s extensive network in China and its presence in key Asia-Pacific markets, we can provide efficient shipment handling well beyond Europe.

How do we organise deliveries to East Asian countries?

● As with deliveries to the USA, GLS Poland takes full responsibility for export customs clearance in Poland.

● Shipments from Poland, together with parcels from across Europe, are exported in consolidated form via the Frankfurt hub to Hong Kong, where they are handed over to SF Express. The Chinese carrier handles transportation to the destination countries, import procedures and last-mile delivery to customers.

● Shipments to major cities in China are typically delivered within 5–7 business days, to Japan, South Korea or Singapore within 6–8 days, and to Indonesia or the Philippines within 8–11 days. This level of efficiency is possible thanks to our partner’s extensive logistics network, which includes more than 90 aircraft, 25,000 vehicles and approximately 100,000 couriers.

● The entire supply chain is covered by a track & trace system – shipments can be tracked both on the GLS website and through the SF Express system.

● Just as in the United States, we are also prepared for situations in which a shipment cannot be delivered to the recipient. Depending on the customer’s instructions, we can arrange a second delivery attempt, dispose of the shipment, or return it to Poland via the Frankfurt hub.

● Importantly, responsibility for the shipment remains with GLS throughout the entire process.
