Personal data

Personal data is data concerning an identified or identifiable natural person, such as a name, address, telephone number or date of birth. Data that cannot be linked to an identified or identifiable natural person, such as the favourite pages of visitors' to the GLS website or the number of visitors per page, are not considered personal data.

Information regarding the collection, management and use of personal data on the GLS website is set out below.

(1)
Each time a visitor opens a GLS website, the following data is (temporarily) recorded in a log file:

  • Date and time of the request
  • IP address or DNS of the requesting computer
  • Requested page (URL)
  • HTTP status code
  • Operating system used and applicant's version
  • Browser and version used

(2)
For use of the GLS website, it may be necessary for the GLS servers to set up cookies. Cookies are small text files that are placed on the visitor's computer by a page of the website. Cookies are used by GLS to optimise the functionality of website pages. Cookies help the visitor's browser to navigate through the website. The visitor can set his/her browser in such a way that cookies are refused, in which case no data will be stored on the visitor's computer. In that case, the visitor may not be able to use all the website features to their full extent.

(3)
The GLS website is divided into an open and private section. The private area serves partly to implement the agreement between the customer and GLS and is only accessible after logging in with your own username and password.
The open part of the website includes a contact form, a Track & Trace function, as well as a ParcelShop search function. The personal details entered there, such as name, street, postcode and city, are required in order to be able to execute the request in question. These personal details will be used carefully and will never be passed on to third parties, unless GLS is obliged to do so by court order.

(4)
The data mentioned under (1) shall be analysed anonymously for statistical purposes. Statistical reports are used to evaluate the use of the GLS website, looking in particular at the order in which the pages are visited. Such research helps GLS to further improve the usability of the website.

(5)
The GLS website uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service provided by Google Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics uses cookies, which make it possible to analyse how the website is used. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States (USA). If IP anonymisation is activated on the website, your IP address will be shortened for transmission in the Member States of the European Union or other contractual states covered by the agreement. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transmitted to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google will also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google under any circumstances. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website. Furthermore, you can block the recording of data by the cookies (including your IP address) related to your use of this website by downloading and installing the browser plugin available at: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.

The GLS website uses the Google Analytics extension: "ga ('set', 'anonymizeIp', true);". This ensures anonymised registration of IP addresses ("IP masking").
