New customs rules

On 1 July 2026, the EU introduced new customs regulations that affect the price of goods purchased from online shops outside the EU. Previously, shipments with a total value of up to EUR 150 were exempt from customs duties. Under the new rules, customs duties must be paid on all shipments from countries outside the EU.
This means that you must pay a fixed customs duty of EUR 3 per item type when the total value of the shipment is below EUR 150.

4 things you need to know before you shop​

You must pay customs duties of at least EUR 3 per shipment When your shipment has a value below EUR 150 (approximately DKK 1,150), you must pay a minimum customs duty of EUR 3.
You will not receive a refund of customs duties if you return your purchase If you change your mind and return one or more items, any customs duties paid will not be refunded.
You may have to pay more customs duties when ordering different products You must pay EUR 3 in customs duties per item category in your parcel. For example, if you buy one cotton T-shirt and two pairs of denim jeans, you will have to pay a total of EUR 6 in customs duties.
You must pay VAT on the total value of the goods including customs duties You must pay 25% VAT on the total value of the goods, including customs duties. Customs clearance fees and transportation charges may also apply, depending on the shipment.

Shopping on Temu or SHEIN?

If you shop on Temu or Shein, you will generally not notice any changes to the delivery of your parcel.
These online retailers typically collect customs duties and VAT directly at checkout when an order contains goods shipped from outside the EU. This means that you will normally not have to pay any additional customs duties when your parcel arrives in Denmark, and delivery times should generally not be affected.
However, we always recommend reviewing your order confirmation and receipt to see which charges are included. For example, on Temu, this will appear under “Customs Clearance Fee.”

Unfortunately, the new customs regulations may be exploited by scammers who send fraudulent text messages and emails regarding customs payments.
If you receive an SMS or email containing a payment link for customs duties, you should be especially cautious. GLS never collects customs duties via SMS or email.

Do not click on links in unexpected messages.

Never share payment card details or personal information via SMS or email.
