Climate Protect – a step further in our environmental commitment

With the aim of reducing and offsetting the emissions generated by our activity, Climate Protect is the new environmental strategy by GLS that involves all stakeholders in our value chain. By adding extra value to GLS Spain’s customer shipments, we adopt an integrative and cross-functional approach that engages all departments of the company.

At GLS Spain, we care about making your shipments with fewer emissions!

  • 100% green energy in all our Delegations
  • Delivers with emissions-free vehicles
  • New Sustainable Buildings Under BREEAM Standars
  • Calculation of the carbon footprint from fuel production to consumption
  • Zero emissions objective in 2045

Having excellent quality in the delivery and pickup process is no longer enough for us, and we have taken it to a higher level by considering the well-being of society, our customers, and employees. Since 2022, the Climate Protect program has further strengthened our commitment to reducing and offsetting our emissions. We are very proud to be reducing our environmental impact despite the significant increase in our shipment volume. This reflects the commitment to the environment made by our business partners and staff. We continue to move forward with the goal of minimizing emissions, setting short- and medium-term targets for offsetting our emissions, and significantly reducing those generated per parcel.

Climate Protect

As a parcel delivery, express shipping, and freight transportation company, we are fully aware of our responsibility to the environment in which we operate. Through Climate Protect, we have updated our emission reduction and offsetting goals with the aim of achieving zero emissions* by 2045.

To achieve this, we involve all parties that influence the shipment management process in this program, promoting best practices such as using electric vehicles for deliveries, electric company cars for commuting, and renewable energy sources

Electric van

We are constantly working to reduce our last-mile emissions by electrifying our delivery vehicles.

As part of the Climate Protect project, one of the initiatives we are implementing is the organization of electric vehicle showrooms across Spain. In collaboration with partners such as GAM, Maxus, and Scoobic, we showcase a range of electric delivery vehicles to facilitate their adoption and integration within our agency network.

The shift towards electric vehicles for urban deliveries not only helps improve air quality by reducing CO2 and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions but also contributes to lowering noise pollution by using quieter vehicles.

The certification obtained, along with the compensation projects stemming from the Climate Protect program, are audited and certified by Climate Partner. Our global partner specializes in CO2 emission calculation and reduction, providing services to over 4,000 companies in 35 countries. Currently, Climate Partner develops more than 100 emission compensation projects.

GLS has implemented a program for the entire group designed to identify and avoid Compliance risks. Furthermore, it is designed to safeguard collaboration with business partners that is based on mutual trust.
In addition to contributing to the reduction of noise pollution by delivering with quieter vehicles.

At GLS Spain we have been certified by DEKRA in the development of our activity based on our commitment to environmental management, quality and sustainable transport. Access the Certificates page and consult our accredited seals.

As a parcel company, we work for a fair social environment. Our commitment to society is reflected in our ThinkSocial program, in which we collaborate with third parties to achieve a social balance. Discover some of these actions.

* GLS's ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045 is to reduce 90% of its Scope 1, 2, and 3 CO2e emissions by 2045 while offsetting the remaining 10% of residual emissions through investments in certified climate protection projects. A roadmap will be developed to achieve this reduction (including the establishment of interim carbon reduction targets) and will be based on climate science. In December 2023, GLS committed to setting targets aligned with the SBTi. GLS expects to complete the development, submission, and approval process in line with the SBTi during the next fiscal year.
