Shipping tips

Ensure safe delivery

The goods must be packed properly so that they arrive intact. Solid cardboard boxes, inner padding, and good tape all provide adequate protection. Proper packaging helps protect the contents of the goods shipped during the automatic sorting and delivery.

All you need is the correct address on the shipping label, and the parcel is ready for shipment.

According to the GLS General Terms and Conditions, a parcel can weigh up to 31.5kg, and the sum of the largest and the smallest sides can be up to 100cm.

Safe packaging

The packaging must adequate to the type, weight and sturdiness of the shipped item.

Outer packaging

The goods packaged in cardboard boxes made of high quality, moisture resistant double cardboard are generally well protected. The protection of the corners, the surface and the edges is extremely important. The boxes are recommended; the boxes used are only suitable for durable goods. The heavier the content, the more stable the outer packaging must be.

Internal padding

All empty spaces in a box must be filled with a padding material. The goods must not move. The padding material used must be compatible with the goods shipped; expanded polystyrene should be used for heavy and fragile goods. Direct contact between the goods and the outer packaging must not be possible.

Sealing

The parcel must be fixed with adhesive tape and tightly sealed on all sides. The harder or larger a parcel is, the stronger the adhesive tape must be. Vigorous sealing is essential for safe delivery.

Sticking the label on the parcel.

The label must be attached on the largest side of the parcel. Old labels or routing labels must be removed. Postal items should not be linked together but must be sent individually. Each shipment must have a label.

Dimensions and weight

GLS sorts shipments to distribution centers using automated sorting systems. This allows fast and economical delivery. Shipments must not exceed certain dimensions in order to be easily transported on conveyor belts. There is also an upper weight limit.

A postal item can have up to
